Since inception in 2011, ASA Women USA has embarked on various Free Maternal Health, Breast, Cervical & Prostate Cancer Medical Missions across the three Senatorial Zones in Anambra State. Our Breast Surgeons from MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Washington D.C and Medical College of Wisconsin, Department of Surgery, Milwaukee, USA in collaborations with the Anambra State surgical teams have performed numerous surgeries in the State and have sponsored and coordinated the Post care of the surgical medical mission patients, across three major hospitals in the State. The medical mission team has donated medical diagnostic equipments to Anambra State Government for sustainability of the programs. The findings after numerous cancer medical missions to the state include: local people die early from preventable breast, cervical & prostate cancer due to lack of appropriate diagnosis, limited access to care, deficiencies in technical manpower, and lack of infrastructure and underreporting. WHO projection estimates that by 2020 there will be 16 million new cases of cancers world-wide and 70 percent of them are to occur in developing countries like Nigeria. By 2025, there will be an estimated 8.9 million annual cases and 4.8 million annual deaths in women globally, and the proportions in less—developed regions like Nigeria will increase to 60% and 68% respectively.

Due to the above challenges, ASA Women USA is launching the Pink & Black Affair to support

A. Exchange of ideas for the development of Anambra State, Nigeria

B. Establishment of partnerships with corporations, institutions / hospitals, foundations, organizations, churches, businesses, agencies etc abroad and in Nigeria towards the Pink & Black Affair Cancer Treatment Research Center Fund.

 C. Seek for Project financing, scoping, design and construction of a comprehensive cancer treatment research center in Anambra State, Nigeria

This proposed comprehensive Cancer Treatment Research Center project is in-line with the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of the under-development healthcare needs for Nigeria. This cancer center in Anambra State will be the first and the only Specialized Cancer Treatment Research Center in the South East Zone of Nigeria. The cancer center will provide a full spectrum of cancer care including screening, diagnosis, chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy, patient follow-up, research and palliative care.
