2016 Members' Juried Art Exhibit
The Museum received 162 images submitted by 66 artists, a record number in the Members’ exhibit. We are grateful for their membership support, and gratified that the museum has a meaningful place in the lives of so many artists. Juror Catherine Tedford selected 67 works to be in the exhibition, which will run through the museum’s busy summer season, until September 11, 2016.
For the first time in any of our juried exhibits, this one has a theme, “water.” Perhaps this played a part in the increased participation. It may also have kept some artists from entering. Artists have addressed the theme in a wide variety of ways, from the many landscapes with water, to a goldfish bowl, an aerial view and a couple abstractions. Sometimes the relation to the theme is obvious, sometimes less so. In any case, we expect a great day on Saturday, May 21st 2 - 4 pm when the exhibit opens with a public reception.
Come and meet the artists at the reception, see their excellent work, and have some fun at the museum. There will be a Best in Show prize of $100, second prize of $75 and a third place prize of $50. The prizes will be announced at 3:00 p.m. At the end of the exhibition, on September 11, a public’s choice award, a museum wrapped canvas of Remington’s oil painting, Boat House at Ingleneuk ca. 1904, will be announced. Anyone can vote for their favorite artwork until September 6, at the museum or on the website,www.fredericremington.org. One vote per person, please.
Many of the works will be for sale. One third of the proceeds benefit the Frederic Remington Art Museum, and two thirds go to the artist. The exhibit will have an online gallery at www.fredericremington.org.
